PARKROYAL Penang involves a major interior renovation to the existing resort at Batu Ferringhi, a scenic beach on Penang island. Due to regulatory and time considerations, it was decided not to alter the existing building structure. Instead a series of architectural interventions were inserted within the building shell using a palette that is warm, tactile and contextual. We wanted to maintain the original open feeling and resisted adding glazing and air-conditioning.
