Beijing Nangong Courtyards
Mixed-use, Beijing

Beijing Nangong Courtyards is a mixed-use development of hotels and residences that celebrates nature, community, and seasonal living. The masterplan draws inspiration from the traditional art of woven textiles, where intersecting strands come together to form a harmonious whole. This weaving of architecture, landscape, and ecology creates a coherent environment where living, leisure, and nature are seamlessly integrated.

Central to the design is the creation of generous courtyards, each embodying one of the natural elements. These courtyards not only provide spacious breathing zones within the dense urban fabric but also enhance social interaction and outdoor enjoyment throughout the year. The buildings are oriented north–south for natural ventilation and maximize sunlight during the harsh northern winter, while vertical greenery along east–west walls provides shade and cooling during the hot Beijing summers.

A carefully designed waterscape enhances the ecological performance of the site by moderating temperature, sustaining habitats, and storing rainwater for irrigation. Seasonal planting enriches the landscape, offering residents and visitors a continuous dialogue with nature’s rhythms—creating inviting settings for recreation, dining, and relaxation—establishing Nangong Courtyards as a timeless sanctuary that blends tradition, sustainability, and contemporary living.
