Beijing IT Mall
Shopping Mall, Beijing
Beijing is a city with rich history and cultural heritage, emerging as a global post-modern metropolis. In this evolving context, new developments often appear as oversized icons disconnected from their surroundings. Our vision for the Beijing IT Mall is to create a landmark that merges harmoniously with its streetscape, fostering human-scaled engagement and a lively pedestrian experience.
The concept of a “City within a City” drives the design. Instead of a singular bulky podium, the mall is articulated as a series of slender frames, stacked and oriented at shifting angles to create multiple welcoming faces. This ensures the building is always visually engaging, encouraging flow from all directions, and offering dynamic opportunities for product showcases and LED displays without overwhelming its context.
Greenery is woven throughout the architecture. Pocket gardens, sky terraces, and tree-lined rooftops provide respite and foster a “Garden in the City.” Cafés and restaurants overlook neighbouring streets, while office and hotel users enjoy connections to nature through cascading green tiers and seasonal skygardens. The result is an urban form that celebrates technology and commerce while promoting sustainability, human scale, and a balance between built and natural environments.
